Hurt/Comfort Exchange is an ao3 based gift exchange for all fandoms, focusing on ships and gen combos. Participants must create either a story of at least 1000 words, or a piece of artwork that is not on lined paper and is at minimum clean linework that is at least 500x500 pixels. In return, they will receive a story of at least 1000 words, or a piece of artwork that is not on lined paper and is at minimum clean linework that is at least 500x500 pixels.
To sign up you must request a minimum of three fandoms with one relationship per fandom, and a minimum of two freeform tags. As well as offer a minimum of three fandoms with one relationship per fandom and at least two freeform tags. You can request 20 freeforms in the Additional Tags field and then 20 more in the Optional Tags field (though they must be copy and pasted from the tagset, as Optional Tags does not dropdown from the tagset) for a total of 40 freeforms max.
As this is a hurt/comfort themed exchange, your relationship tags will indicate which character(s) are hurt and are in need of comfort and the freeforms will be for specifying the kinds of hurts, types of comforts, and various scenarios you would like to offer or request.
This exchange has four stages: Nominations, Signups, Assignments, Reveals
Information on Nominations can be found here.
Signup Information
A form will be available on ao3 to submit the fandoms, relationships, and freeforms you wish to create and/or receive fanworks for. The Sign Up Form is available here
There will also be an option to select if you wish to receive fanfic and/or fanart and if you wish to offer fanfic and/or fanart.
You have the option to create a letter. A letter is hosted off ao3 anywhere that is publicly viewable so you may provide additional information, likes, dislikes, prompts, art references, or anything else that you feel would be helpful for your fanwork gift creator. Please have your letter finished and viewable within a week of assignments going out.
You have the option to provide additional details on ao3. Please use this box to provide any Do Not Wants you may have, as only DNWs included in your ao3 signup will be enforced. A DNW is anything that would ruin your gift and you absolutely do not wish to receive. Your fanwork creator is required to avoid your DNWs to the best of their ability. You can also include any likes, prompts, or additional details you feel would be helpful for your fanwork gift creator.
DNWs should be clear, free of judgement, and not box your creator in or provide conflict with the request. Bad-faith DNWs will not be enforced, such as requesting a canon m/m pairing and DNWing m/m and genderbends.
If you request Character /& Group any characters within that group will count as fulfilling the request. You may put preferences in your optional details, but if you strongly prefer specific characters please request those instead.
You will be able to edit your signup until signups close on March 15th.
Assignment Information
After you sign up and assignments go out you will match on at least one relationship and freeform and you are only obligated to create a fanwork for one of the requested relationships and freeforms. It does not have to be the ones you matched on, just ones that they are requesting. Your assignment should go out after March 15th. You will be required to submit a fanwork that satisfies the minimum requirements (though you are welcome to go over the minimum!) by May 14th.
Your fanwork must match your recipient's requested Medium. If they've requested both you are welcome to submit one of either medium. You are not required to make both.
For Medium: Fanfiction - a story of at least 1000 (1k) words
For Medium: Fanart - a piece of artwork that is not on lined paper and is at minimum clean linework that is at least 500x500 pixels.
Your fanwork must also exclude any DNWs that are included in the details of someone's ao3 signup.
If possible, include the freeform tag you are writing for in the work tags or in author note to have your work approved more quickly.
If you cannot fulfill your assignment, ao3 has the option to default on your assignment. Please try to do so as soon as you are certain you need to so that your former assignment can go out for pitch hit.
Pinch hits are assignments that are in need of a fanwork creator. You do not have to be signed up to accept a pitch hit, but you do need to submit it on time and meet the minimum requirements.
Treats are entirely optional additional fanworks that are gifted to people signed up in the exchange based on their requests. They do not have to meet the minimum, but they do have to respect DNWs.
Reveals
When submitted, your fanwork will initially show up as Mystery Work. You will be able to edit it, but no one but the exchange mods can view it until it goes live.
On the 21th of May the collection will go live and the works will be visible, but they will all be by Anonymous. Any comment you make on your own work will be by Anonymous Creator.
On May 28th authors will be revealed. If you have left comments as Anonymous Creator they will automatically change to your username.
