hurtcomfortexmodHello everyone! The schedule for Hurt/Comfort Exchange 2022 will be out soon, but in the meantime we wanted to discuss some potential changes.
1. How fandoms are sorted will likely get streamlined. We are looking into the best way to condense MCU and Star Wars to make them more user-friendly.
2. We are planning on adopting the new rule that you may request and offer one fandom, with the understanding if you go to pinch hit you are not guaranteed a gift if you have less than three unique offers.
3. We are considering adding the option for "solo: Character (hurt)" for those who wish to request whump and self-comfort.
4. The biggest change and what we're looking for the most feedback on is freeforms.
Last year freeforms did not go as smoothly as hoped. There was confusion and disagreement on what should be added to the tagset and we'd like to minimize it this year.
Our goals are -
To make it clearer what does and doesn't belong in the tagset.
To make sure the tags in the tagset are clear and less likely to be misinterpreted.
To make things overall less stressful on both sides
To avoid tagset bloat, if possible.
The two options we have been discussing.
4A. Clean up last year's freeforms and import them into the new tagset, then offer a more limited number of new freeforms.
4B. Change the structure so that tags follow one of three formats
Tag with Hurt and Comfort built into the tag. "Hugging someone with an ice cream headache"
Tag with H: to indicate it is a hurt. H: Ice cream. H: Ice cream headache.
Tag with C: to indicate it is a comfort. C: Warm hugs.
It would also be entirely possible for C: Ice cream. to be a tag! It would indicate they want ice cream as a comfort item such as after a breakup or after surgery or so on that could be in optional details or left up to the creator. This would help avoid ambiguity and confusion.
Edit: For clarity, with 4B we would be allowing tags in all three formats, not picking a single format from the three.
We are opening up to feedback on how best to do this. We know one of the challenges is that the theme of hurt/comfort is a personal one and what one person sees clearly as a hurt someone else might not see that way. We are not doing this lightly and we're trying hard to find a solution that will be a positive for everyone. There is still a good bit of time before the exchange, so please be understanding if we don't reply to your comment immediately.
