This is my first hurt/comfort event and I had no idea what to put for freeform. So... should I make those freeform themes be specific to a fandom or?

Hi there!

If your freeforms are the ones in the first group, we think these freeforms are too vague and have too much wiggle room to be accepted as is. For example, 'Character Death In Dream' could refer to the viewpoint character dreaming of their own death or dreaming of another character's death; either way could be considered a hurt, but would result in two very different pictures/stories.

If your freeforms were in the second group, these are too general and the method of hurt/heal is not clear. For example, 'A/B/O - Alphas are Subservient to Omegas' does not explain whether this is Alphas/Omegas being hurt, or whether this is a comfort to A/Os. "Alphas are unwillingly compelled to be subservient to Omegas" would show more of a hurt; "Alpha chooses to be subservient to Omega to appease mate" would be more of a comfort.

In general tags for this exchange should fall either into a hurt (something that harms a character), a comfort (something that "restores" a character after they are hurt/brought to a low point), or a combination of the two.

I know we have talked in EAD, but figured I would post this as well in case it helps you (or anyone else who might need some clarification).

None of these nominations are mine, so this is merely out of curiosity, but I was wondering what was the issue with the nomination for sharing a bed while mutually pining. Is it that "pining" isn't considered to be a form of hurt?

Pining is not considered a hurt for this exchange, as the only comfort needed is to be loved back. In fandom it is primarily used as a romantic trope, and we would not consider the Pining exchanges to be copies of this exchange, but their own unique thing.

I nominated "A loves B; pining B thinks A is only fucking B as revenge for a past mistake and out of convenience". But it wasn't my idea from the start; I copied it from last year's tagset. So I'm confused as to why it was accepted without problem then, but not now...? I think the hurt/comfort aspect is pretty clear, so I'm not sure in what way you want it changed.

Mods do not use last year's tagset when deciding the new tagset, we look at them fresh.

I'm sorry to be frank, but I don't see how that makes sense. You're basically saying that you will randomly change your mind from year to year, and refuse to explain your reasoning when asked. Like I said, I honestly don't see how the tag could be clearer - and don't know what more you need from it that you didn't need last year - which is why I asked for advice. I really love this exchange and wanted to participate again, so this feels very disappointing to me.

Alternate Universe - Zombie Apocalypse

This is not my nomination, but I'd like to make a case for it.

No, Zombie Apocalypse does not have a specific hurt/comfort in the tag itself, but unlike the other alternate universe tags listed it has an hurt/comfort easily baked into it. People get bit and are turning into zombies. The physical strain of fighting a never ending fight for survival. The psychological and emotional strain of killing what once was human, what might have even been friends or family. Characters facing crisis of faith. Huddling for warmth. Ruined cities. Having to be tense and wary with every step you take. Fellow survivors being just as much of a risk as the zombies, maybe even more so.
