I fell in love with these two over the course of the book. I have a weakness for odd couples who manage to be perfectly matched, and I love their contrasting strengths—Archie's physical strength vs. Daniel's more subtle (usually) approach (but I also love situations where these are reversed!). Archie protecting Daniel simply captivated me in canon and their jobs have so much potential for this, but I’m also deeply fascinated by the idea of Daniel protecting or taking care of Archie or both of them muddling through being hurt and comforting each other. I can absolutely see either of them accepting hurt to protect the other, especially if Daniel doesn’t see himself as able to protect Archie physically the way Archie does him.
I love all the side characters of the series and would be delighted to see Pat/Fen or any family members show up to offer their advice/support of varying degrees of helpfulness. I’ve read through the WDA epilogue so I’m happy for anything anywhere on the timeline as well.

Something set when they're enemies, when they're 'very good friends', in the awkward bit in between, something just based on Flies East or on any other bit of canon, an AU - you can't go wrong here. I never had a crush on Napoleon - until I read book 4 and got such a desire to have him and Laurence end up together with a besotted Napoleon giving him everything he deserved. I mean, Lawrence goes through so much physical and mental hurt throughout the books, stoically bearing it all, and Napoleon could just be like, yeah, I'm just going to conquer you too because you need to be taken care of and you're clearly not capable of it, what with your very attractive, if annoying, heroic, self-sacrificing nature.
Canon divergence would definitely be fun here - something where Napoleon wins, gets his spoils of war, and the British government is all deeply confused because "why him?" but they're not going to question it. Or something where getting transported was the good option and Laurence suffers a bit before being rescued by the worst person possible.

There is just so much potential here! To start off with, canon does not indulge my need for lovingly detailed descriptions of just how Jing Beiyuan recovered from his near fatal injuries, both when Wu Xi was saving his life and when he got enough energy to be one of the worst patients imaginable. I mean, we jump from Wu Xi saying "oh yeah, he's dead, totally don't check the body" to JBY whining in a carriage so what happened to get there?
And then there are even more post-canon possibilities - random poisons that may either kill or just make you horny, JBY inevitably running headlong into trouble while thinking he's got it under control, WX wondering if he should just tie him down for his own sanity...

I just recently got into this and oh, wow, it's definitely handy to have a character who can cause both the hurt and the comfort. I'd love something where Moonjo doesn't die (I will take anything - unexplained recovery, supernatural means, canon divergence) and ends up saving Jongwoo from rival killers, law enforcement, or even Moonjo himself. Granted, when I say 'save,' we are talking about Moonjo, whose definition of the term is not standard medical practice, unless Hannibal Lecter wrote the textbook.
Also, vampires! I feel like Jongwoo would be a terrible vampire in that he would be very good at it and deeply guilty about it, while Moonjo is just calmly watching him and shoving bodies in his path, like a cat dumping mice on his doorstep.

Look, I know their relationship is a terrible idea, which is why I'm so very behind it. Age gaps, rival countries in a time of cold war, the whole marriage thing, past addictions... the list goes on. So it means also that I definitely want Beth and Borgov getting closer, alternately drawn and repelled by each other's backgrounds, personality, and their connection to the game that binds the two of them together. It also means that if one of them gets hurt, I want it to be Borgov because I feel like TQG already showed me a great deal of Beth's pain and I'd like to see him suffer a bit too.
I have so many random ideas here - road trips after defection or maybe they need to get to a hospital and they're out in the middle of nowhere (feel free to make up any reason why). Maybe Borgov's family dies and he flees his country and he has nowhere left to go and Beth is like, oh, you're damaged and broken and want to make terrible choices? Then she temples his fingers together and it's all downhill from there. Also, time loops. I don't know why but I feel like they work well with chess and the idea that brilliant improvisation can often defeat a carefully laid trap.
